Introduction  Foreword

Dr Ian Basnett and Dr Peter McCartney

Welcome to the new-look, Camden and Islington Coronary Heart Disease Resource Pack.

This pack has been written primarily for the use of primary healthcare professionals, to assist with implementing the National Service Framework for Coronary Heart Disease (NSF for CHD). You will find locally written protocols, information about local services available to help you to achieve the goals and milestones set in the NSF and evidence based guidelines to help you work towards best practice.

The people involved are all local health professionals (many with a wider reputation), and we are extremely grateful for their contributions. Click here for a list of contributors and CHD Resource Pack Steering Group Members.

There is a protocol for a Nurse led CHD Clinic written by Claire, Geri and Siobhan, the NSF Nurses for Camden and Islington; guidelines for the investigation and management of Hypertension, written by Professor Patrick Vallance, Director of the Centre for Clinical Pharmacology, Therapeutics and Toxicology at the University College of London; a Heart Failure protocol developed during a series of intensive workshops for local general practitioners, led by Dr Suzanna Hardman (Consultant Cardiologist, Whittington Hospital) and Dr Rosaire Gray (Consultant Physician, Whittington Hospital), and much more!

We have linked with local community group projects and we now have patient information leaflets on healthy eating and weight reduction and also patient advice leaflets for the drugs listed in the prescribing formulary that can be easily printed from the website.

We hope that you will find this website user friendly and that the new search facility will help. All you have to do is type in a key word or term (for example 'smoking cessation'), click on 'search' and then all of the relevant information will be listed. However, if you can think of something that could improve the website we welcome your feedback. Click here to contact us with your comments.

The website will be updated regularly to ensure that all information is relevant and appropriate. There is also a news page, which will have stories of local interest (including information on where we are with achieving the milestones).

Enjoy using the website and get in touch with your comments.

Best wishes,

Dr Peter McCartney
